"...true love is proved not by what it does for us, but what it makes us do for those we love."-Penny Pinchers Club.
So I read a book. No. Not a normal girly romance novel about a vampire or sexy billionaire...okay maybe there was a billionaire or two in there but this book wasn't about a silly girl falling in love with a man's money or sparkly skin. NO! This book was about true love and the fight that couple's will go through to stay with their soul mate.
Exhibit A: The Penny Pinchers Club.
According the the teaser, Kat grew up in the Suburbs of Jersey and has a serious retail habit. Her marriage is on the frits with hubby Griff when she suspects him of cheating. She needs to start changing her life and spending habits in order to save the "doe" for that expensive lawyer.
But when her ex-fiance(Mr. Money-bags) turns up she will have to decide if love conquers mall.
Money is the root of all evil, even so in a marriage. Fun fact; most marriages fail these days due to income(or lack thereof) than infidelity. I can't even wrap my brain around the fact of how true this book is and just how much it hits home. It shows a woman, just like you or I, a girl who has a love of cute clothes or shoes. She loves to decorate things. She love to spend money.
It takes little to no skill to spend a dime, but it takes a true motivated and organized individual to save money. I find myself with this battle every day. Josh and I have a little monkey on our backs and he loves to rip the cash out of our hands every second he gets.
No one likes to open their bills and see all of the money they could be spending on material items or saving in their nest eggs go to waste on electricity, water, or rent. What I hate the most is seeing the pennies I make go towards my Kohls card and David's Bridal card.
Anyone who knows me, knows I will do whatever I can to make sure my bills stay low so my play money can flow! I never spend more than I know I can replace and after reading this book I think I have found new ways to save money. HELLO! We are planning a wedding here, that is expensive enough. Josh and I just started to grow our little "nest-egg" and we want it to be healthy and happy in our coming years together.
Rules of the Club:
1. DONT grocery shop with the hubby
2. DO vacuum the backside of your fridge once a month and disconnect the ice maker(it's a money hog)
3.DONT buy a durable item when it's new (except for mattresses, underwear and swimsuits)
4.DONT buy gas in the afternoon (especially on warm/hot days) Buy it in the cool morning when it is colder and thicker in the ground. Always keep your tank more than half full.
5. DO place all "phantom" appliances on an energy power strip and turn them off for at least 12hrs every night.
6. DONT pay for expensive name brand cleaning products. A well blended mix of water and bleach will clean just about everything. Vinegar will clean your glass just as well as a brand name item as well.
7. DONT wash dishes by hand. Use the dishwasher, and only use half of the recommended soap.
8. DONT watch TV, it creates artificial wants.
9. DO shop with frugal girlfriends and split up bulk purchases.
10. DONT get divorced. Saving your marriage can save your IRA.
The moral of my story is that to save money, you can't just talk about it. You actually have to put forth some effort.
This author is a genious and though her characters may be fictitious, her words are real. Spending quality time with someone you love is much better than wasting unwanted energy and money. A walk around the block is the cheapest date anyone can have. You are getting exercise, learning about someone you love and saving money. And when you are faced with a sticky situation true love will shine through.
