Exhibit A:
This my friends, is hell. Formally known as Daytona State College. If you were thinking about going here, let me just wish you good luck.
I recently decided to go back to school for my LPN. I am thrilled to start my classes but I am less than thrilled by the hoops I have to jump through just to get anywhere. Don't be fooled by the palm trees and pretty little banner. If you try to register for classes, be prepared to sit on the phone and in an office for more hours than you will actually attend class for.
Back pedal: I use to attend dual enrollment during high school because it would help me save money on college. One summer during my junior year I was all set to attend two classes that would put me ahead and able to graduate with my A.A degree. Unfortunately, dual enrollment decided that they were not going to pay for my classes after the drop period had already passed and I ended up fighting with them to pay for my bill that I was not set to pay. That scene left a pretty little mark on my record with the school that has caused me more sleepless nights than I know what to do with. I didn't graduate high school with my A.A and decided that I was not going to pay out of pocket for a degree that was useless. So I stopped attending and waited for the time when I could make a decision on what degree I actually wanted so every dollar would be worth my time.
Present time: I re-applied for the college to begin classes again after a long break from reality. Two degree changes and some form signing later and here we are. Smooth sailing until we hit the financial aid department. See, what happens when you have a mark left on your record with Daytona State is as follows:
- You have to meet with a financial advisor
- You have to do an appeal for 67% of classes not attempted
- You have to do another appeal for over 150% of credits attempted
- You have to swear you won't change your major
- You have to donate a kidney while juggling a bear juggling chain-saws
- You have to fight with an online "improvement" where they will lose and then gain your file and then tell you that you need to re-apply to the school
- You will sit on hold on the phone for an hour to be hung up on
- You call back and talk to someone who has no clue what's going on but she is glad to be of no assistance to you
I am just at my wits end at this point. I have had so many conversations with this school in the past week that I don't even know what is true or false.
Every monkey dance and hoop I jump through never seems to be good enough for them.
There is no wonder that their graduation rate is so low. If most businesses treated customers this way, they would have more lawsuits on their hands than they would know what to do with.
I have been promised and re-promised false information call after call. I am not sure these people know their elbow from their butt-holes.
Please do yourselves a favor, anyone who is reading this, pass along that this college is a joke and the faster we can all be done with them, the faster we can help people get a degree at a college that cares about more than how much money they can scam from people.
Sincerely,
One irate student-mom.
